Adolescences Suicide – Kalpna’s Tips To Prevent Part-3

By S Kalpna Sharma Before, I proceed further; let me convey my appreciation and sincere thanks to all Ezine esteem readers. I am very sanguine that with yours dedicated efforts; we united would be able to prevent teenagers and adolescence suicide. In my previous thought sharing assignment, I tried to share some common problems of teenagers but today, I would dwell upon various different problems of teenagers. During my study, I have observed that most of the teenagers behave more or less in similar fashion irrespective of the country or continent they belong. However, there is a vast difference in perception and social activities of teenagers originating from urban and rural areas. As teenagers suicide problem is more or less confined to urban areas, my endeavors would be to highlight maximum issues on their unstable state of mind and immature conduct. There is also a definite pattern of behavior of teenagers in United State of America, Europe and Russian states. While the Asian aborigine commits suicide quietly, the Western countries teenagers, contrary to general belief, have been found to be indulging in violence activities before ending their own lives. I have observed during my interaction with teenagers that the developing ego state of a child and an adult is the main cause of depression, adaptability and suicidal tendency. Most of the children, who get positive support at home, behave wisely; but generally the lack of attention at home is identified as true cause of Teenagers Suicide. My endeavor is once again to analyse and bring out various other teenagers related issues in the society. A few important burning issues which cause depression and isolation amongst teenagers are discussed as under:- Mental Stress Supervision Response (MSSR) Risk Behavioral Attributes Symptoms (RBAS) Visual Changes Disorder (VCD) I will touch upon a few MSSR, which generally every teenager undergoes after crossing the age of twelve. At this stage, a child is not only admitted in next higher education standards but also grows physically to meet social obligations thus putting an extra stress on her kindhearted mind and flexible self-esteem. In fact, a teenager is crushed between the adolescence temperament and grown-up image. A girl teenager, on entering in her thirteenth year, is undergoing various biological changes in her body. When her body begins to transform and grows as a woman, she suddenly finds herself out of place thus developing various mental stresses while trying to ascertain her status as a child and adult. Diverse social checks imposed by parents also make her think differently. A few factors of state of mental stresses on girl teenagers are; one, why so many restriction are imposed by mother; what to do and what not; two, she also finds herself confined from a liberal free growing attitude of a child to growing adult female; three she gets engrossed in analyzing within herself; as to why some many restriction are imposed on her and not on her brother; four her own biological body changes such as commencement of menstruation cycle and development of breast etc; five development of various complications like severe pain in thighs, stomach, head and lower back and; Six increased sense of self consciousness of exposing her legs, breast and other body parts thus becoming obsessed with possessive and defensive visual attitude. Seventh, she is confined to social etiquettes as a female and not as a child. If girl is closer to mother, she shares her thought or else; she confides to her best friends. If friends are sensible nothing goes wrong otherwise, the teenager might go astray. I suggest that the mothers must interact at night before going to bed to asses their children mental strengths and weaknesses during transition of body changes. Eighth the pressure from parent, teachers and self to perform well in studies for children not involving sports. Ninth a few teenagers who take part in extra curricular activities and sports also find added pressure of doing well. Though most of the boys exhibit carefree attitude, but by and large, they are more under mental stress than girls. The boys have to live up to the family legacy of inherited social status. In certain cases, the mental stress is so much that the boys collapse under the credence of uncomfortable requirements. The parents begin to expect sharing of increased family responsibilities and commitments from boys. They generally undergo: One, stress of sharing increased parents expectations; Two, enhanced anticipated social responsibilities in the society; Three, intense pressure of performing well all as round development; Four; pressure to perform well in other than academics; Five; increased expectation of parents to share daily household routine activities; Six; over burden to do well in studies thus forcing boys to attend numerous extra coaching and tuition classes daily; Seven; of course to pursue family line of business to earn livelihood; Eight; remain always under mental pressure to live up to the expectations of over ambitious parent whose social standings are at stake for nothing and; Ninth; the last but not the least is if a teenager has become victim of some greed and already taken a wrong step such as gambling, drug consumptions, liquor addictions or sexual misadventures at premature age both by boys and girls. After analyzing the state of MSSR issues, I would suggest a few RBA symptoms to identify disturbed teenagers to take preventive steps and corrective measures to avert loss of life. During my studies, I have observed that most of the teenagers who had committed suicide had exhibited a set pattern of behavioral change amongst them. I have enlisted most of the obvious symptoms to identify before a teenagers commit suicide. one, child becomes irritant and tries to view every act of parent suspiciously; two becomes very violent and authoritative with younger siblings but tries to avoid facing elder brothers/sisters at home; three child follows a retired hurt syndrome; fourth he tries to remain alone thus isolating self specially when at home; five develop erratic behavior of absentmindedness and forgetfulness; sixth child expresses very fearsome timid or totally bold conduct to conceal mistakes; seventh he often remains absent from school; eighth all such children exhibit disobedient and submissive mind-set; ninth developing and reflecting an arrogance and argumentative nature; and tenth the most important and apparent reason is the mismanagement of time at home and school. The child will either not complete home work or miss classes with out parents knowledge. In all the cases, he exhibits fear, worrisome and fretful approach. You will agree with me that until unless you neglect your child to such extent that he has too commit suicide, than it would be wise to say we are not fit to be good parents. I, therefore, fell that there is a constant need to keep a check on your teenager if he is behaving suspiciously. I repeat that keeping close eye and monitoring your child should not be misunderstood as spying. I have observed some of the teenagers in USA behave very violently when they came to know that their parents were trying to know their where about. After discussing the various mental stresses, behavioral attributes, I would analyze the Visual Changes Disorder or generally I nick named it VCD conflict. At this stage, a child undergoes and develops a severe Internal Psychological Rationale Inconsistency (IPRI) condition of mind. An alert mother or father can easily find out from the activities of her/his child. When child is put under various restrictions, he gets confused. Some times, child finds that many restrictions imposed by parents are not being followed by them, thus leaving an iota of doubt in his mind in differentiating as to what is right and wrong? Three obvious indicators are to identify such stage of child; one he becomes aversive in conduct; two reflects repulsive nature; and three always acts in a justifiable manner to prove his point of arguments for every wrong. The IPRI state of mind is the ultimate decision making approach. I recommend that parent had to follow my CCPA theory of handling such child. The Calm, Cool and Patience Approach model of handling child is developed after nearly twenty years of continuous studies. What, I CCPA actually meant is one, be Calm while hearing your child, two behave compositely and always act Coolly while interacting; three always be Patience while taking decision deciding your childs career, studies and social responsibilities. In addition to the aforesaid problems, I have also observed that there are some more strong Mental Disorders (MD) qualities, which such children have, by and large, reflected before ending their lives. These are: The first MD is Right Adamant Syndrome (RAS) is very dominant attribute observed amongst most of the children who committed suicide. RAS means that a child tries to justify his every action without understanding the implications. He believes that whatsoever, he is doing it is right and he cannot take any wrong step. Under such condition, the parents have to follow Listen to Interact and Discuss (LID) approach. Under no condition, force your decisions. You should listen to your children patiently and discuss various solutions with them. Remember, your actions are to avert tragedy and not force your decision. I have also observed that at this time the parents also suffer from I Am Right (IAR) disorder. Due this IAR approach, parents become insistent and force their will on children thus further alienating the child. The second MD leads to Leave – Me Alone Disorder (L-MAD). This disorder is very strongly seen amongst all teenagers when they are fifteen or sixteen years old. Such children, who are crossing the age of adolescence and entering in adulthood, often reflect L-MAD traits. Whenever you find your child is victim of this trait please follow concept of mix and deal (MAD). Under such conditions, become friendly with your teen and try to make him part of some important family decisions so that he is not isolated and willingly share his concern with parents. MAD concept requires regular interaction on weekly and fortnightly basis meetings with the teenagers. Parents must remember that when your child begin to frequently say Leave – Me Alone, think that some thing is wrong. Follow MAD to deal L-MAD. The third MD relates to Lack of Faith Arrogance Stimulus (LFAS). LFAS is evident in most of the cases of children going astray. When, children are unable to meet ever increasing education pressure, than they suffer from LFAS personality clash. You will observe that under such conditions your children will reflect lack of faith every where. Your child will be shy in approaching parents for wrongs and reserve in discussing various problems with their parents. In these conditions, children generally exhibit most of the obvious signs. This is the most dangerous sign of a child before committing suicide. To overcome the problem, I recommend that parents should adopt the concept of Trust My Faith (TMF) conduct. Make sure that your children pose total faith in you that irrespective of the errors, they are not going to be physically assault and humiliated. Remember, errors can be rectified but once life is gone, it cannot be revived. TMF is an ongoing process which has to be implemented from the day you are blessed with a child. Not confining to above, I have also observed the four different attributes amongst neglected teens. One; they carryout certain acts to draw attention of their parents to stress out MD; Two; such teens begin to feel that they have grown enough to take responsibilities and make decisions; Three; when checked they get very frequently irritated and; Four; some of the teenagers remain confused, and act to distract parents attention. I have coined a few quotes which can be placed inside house in dining hall, guest, children and study rooms so that children read frequently to gain faith amongst working parents. One, Work and study Hard, to become a Good Human being; two You are my precious gift of God, I trust, your all actions would be for Good of others; three love thy parent to love thy God; Good Children never hide any thing from their Parent; and Wherever you are, I am with you my child. Nevertheless withstanding the above suggestions, I also recommend observing your teenagers activities to guide and mould and not to rebuke and reprimand. Youre your teenager suffer from isolation and depression, he shows a sudden change in his/her behavior with parents and elders. Such children should be kept under constant conversation through interaction. Never spy on your teen; but make him believe that you are keeping an eye to help him and solve his problem. You will agree that girls as comparative to boys, are placed under many restrictions by their elders due to various social raisons d’tre. I suggest that all parents should maintain close relationships with their children after they cross the age of twelve: one, mother with girl and father with boy must interact minimum once a day. Try to have always share one meal either breakfast, lunch or dinner on dinning table or mat; If you missed any meal, you should seek excuse saying Quote Sorry, over work kept away Join you next meal. two must interact with your children for minimum an hour or so once a fortnight; three once a week spare time to make teens believe that you have taken break only for them; four share lighter veins moment with them before going to bed as Daadi Maa (grand mother) Tales; five never let your child feel isolated. Parent should remember that their asset is their children and not work. Six, how over committed you may be it is immaterial to your teen; but how approachable are you matters most? At last, I would analyse in my next series as to what teenagers think when they enters teenage. My daughters say that there is a tendency amongst all teenagers to ascertain their positions at home, school and with in friends. How they do is so obvious that parents can easily differentiate between a cared and neglected teenager. Most of the working parents feel that by dropping and picking up children from school gates ends their responsibilities towards growing teenagers. Some parents feel that by pumping bundles of notes in their teenagers pockets they have done their share of bit. Such parents are grossly wrong as most of the teenagers are hungry for LPC (Love, Passion and Company). Before, I proceed further; let me convey my appreciation and sincere thanks to all Ezine esteem readers for supporting the movement of Suicide Free Teenagers Year of 1007 (SFTY-007). How To Invest Your Money Safely

By Joseph Kenny When it comes to making investments, most people know that there is always room for a possible loss. Stock market investments in particular are rather notorious for taking a rather well funded portfolio and emptying it rather quickly. Of course, that does not happen all the time, otherwise no one would do it. If, on the other hand, you do not want to take what many consider to be an unnecessary risk, there are a number of other investments that are reasonably safer, can still bring a good return, and are definitely worthwhile. Here are a couple of them. A common phrase that is often used these days to refer to the making of your investments safer is having a balanced portfolio. This means that you are not putting all of your eggs into one basket. You know that some markets are a much greater risk than others, such as trading on the stock market, and so you put some of your investment capital into some that are much safer and less likely to be lost. This “balance,” created by placing some of your investment into a variety of potential interest bearing accounts, should result in an overall gain. Investments Depend On The Person If you are a young person, then it should mean that you would be willing to take a higher risk (assuming you have some capital that may be lost). The possibility of the highest gains, unfortunately, also come from the markets with the potential for the highest change. This means that there is a much greater likelihood of a real loss – especially if you do not know what you are doing. By using the services of an experienced trader however, a stockbroker that has been doing it for years, you minimize the possibility of loss. But you should only invest a portion of your finances into the stock market. If, on the other hand, you are much closer to retirement age, then you do not want to take such a risk with your funds. Instead, you would want to place your soon to be needed funds into a much more stable growth account, where the loss can be minimized and yet still bring a return in interest. Stable Investing In Trust Funds If you are looking to stabilize your investments in the stock market with something that is relatively sure, then you need to consider mutual funds. This form of investing places your investment into the hands of investors that basically do the investing for you. They watch the market, manage the funds, and make the changes necessary in order to keep your account growing. After you inform them of what level of risk you are willing to take, then the rest is done for you. They take your funds and spread them over a diverse sort of investments, and it gives you a much more stable package. The Most Stable Investment – Bonds Probably the most stable investment you can make is to buy bonds. The safest, of course, are the US Savings Bonds. These are purchased at a set price and guarantee a set interest amount in a specified time period. You cannot get much safer than that – and probably not much is safer than the US Government – investment wise. If you are looking for the highest stability available, then you need to take some of your investment portfolio and add some bonds to it. Bonds are also available from other corporations, cities, etc., but their strength is limited to the financial strength of the company. The longer the time period of your investment – the greater the risk that the company may not be around. In addition to creating a balanced portfolio, you need either to become very knowledgeable about financial investing, or you need to seek professional counsel. Many people lose a lot of money every year simply because of unnecessary risks. These risks would never have been taken if they had sought counsel from someone who knows much more than they did about the market and investing methods. A truly balanced portfolio will also have an expert to help guide you through the many potential hazards of the investment world. Hawaii’s Fish Of Summer

By Richard Young Despite all of the Hawaii big game fishing and blue-water diving depicted in postcards and the media, some of islands most popular fishing involves nothing more than a hand pole with a hook and sinker or some ultra-light tackle and bit of local fishing savvy! During the summer two small but highly popular Hawaii fish, the oama, or juvenile goatfish, and the halalu, smaller siblings of a type of mackerel known in the islands as akule, make their appearance at beaches and deeper near-shore waters throughout the state. And, when they do appear, so do Hawaiis local folks! The owama (pronounced o-wa-ma) run about seven inches and congregate in large schools in shallow water often right off the beach while the similar-sized halalu (ha-la-loo) are generally found in deeper water such as harbors or beaches with a quicker depth drop. Appearing as schools in the thousands, these summer fish usually stay in the same vicinity for a few weeks causing something of an attraction as scores of anglers congregate in the shallow waters, breakwaters, piers, or beaches where the schools might be present. When the schools are in, word goes out on the grapevine through kids, moms and dads, seniors, and just about anyone who likes fishing! Prized as bait for larger fish but even more so as delicious table fare, the oama and halalu are more than just fish, theyre an island tradition. Driving around the islands, its not uncommon to spot groups of unrelated individuals in circles or standing abreast in thigh- or waist-deep water off the beach with short bamboo poles. These folks are fishing for oama and stand together so as to keep the school in one place with the cumulative draw of their baited hooks. Its a subdued excitement as in near silence the anglers alternately jerk their poles to lift a small fighting fish out of the water and into the small scoop nets which are hung conveniently at their sides. If you come across a scene with a large group of people using either extended hand poles or ultra-light fishing tackle to cast and erratically reel in tiny feathered hooks or similar artificial bait, theyre after the halalu. Like the groups fishing for oama, these larger crowds on the shore are fishing in a quiet so prevailing you can hear the splashing of the small fish as theyre being reeled in. In these large groups youll also find an array of styles for retrieving the lured hooks which characterizes the pet techniques that separate one angler from another. Whether you have an appetite for the small fish or not, coming across either of these types of fishing scenes is a unique and interesting affair and one youll probably only see in Hawaii. Its one of those things that go far beyond fishing. Rather, its a slice of life that so many of us whove grown up in the islands return to year after year. So as small as they may be, the oama and halalu play a big part of Hawaiis fishing scene and are as much or more a part of Hawaii fishing as sport fishing or diving. Indeed these small, seemingly insignificant fish are a big part of the fabric of life in these Hawaiian Islands these two fish of summer! The author, Richard Young, is a lifelong Hawaii resident and is the creator of HawaiiBeachcombers.com which includes considerable coverage of Hawaii Fishing. Diet Pills and Oprah

By Patsy Hamilton Over the weekend, on one of those debate shows, a group of three gave opinions concerning Oprahs affect on Americans. The makers, advertisers and web site designers of practically every hoodia gordonii diet pill on the market, mention the hoodia / Oprah connection. Why does America value Oprahs opinion so highly? Books mentioned by Oprah become best sellers. Products mentioned by Oprah disappear from shelves. The Oprah hoodia connection is no exception. Hoodia gordonii is an amazing plant, appears to be a powerful appetite suppressant and is helping people lose weight, but why the American public believes it when they hear it from Oprah is an interesting question. The hoodia Oprah connection was formed in July of 2005, when an article in O magazine called Diet Pills, The Next Generation mentioned hoodia gordonii. Hoodia is world famous today because of Oprah Winfrey and reporters from 60 minutes and the BBC. Not too many people have anything bad to say about hoodia gordonii. There are cautions concerning buying authentic or genuine hoodia. There are concerns about completion of clinical research, but people who listen to Oprah dont care. There are rumors about an Oprah hoodia diet pill. There does not appear to be any such product. People have said that Oprah is using hoodia herself. This does not appear to be true either. Oprah has had consistent problems with her weight for as long as the American public can remember. First she is really overweight, and then she slims down. She appears to be on that see-saw or roller coaster that many Americans ride when it comes to controlling their weight. Many of us have lost the same 10 or 20 pounds over and over again throughout our lives. There is nothing amazing about the fact that we continuously search for a miracle weight loss pill. About hoodia, Oprahs opinions may be right. Research thus far and customers testimonials seem to indicate that hoodia works for many people. Like any product, it does not work for everyone, but most people who comment about being dissatisfied with results, find satisfactory results with another product. The Oprah hoodia article did not support or recommend any product currently on the market. It was a general article, as were the television reports about the effectiveness of hoodia as an appetite suppressant. It is doubtful that any of the reporters or writers who investigated hoodia gordonii would have thought that their comments would prove to be the basis for a nationwide advertising campaign, but at least they gave hope to overweight people everywhere. UK Top 40 Singles: Should It Include Ringtones As Well?

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Everton_Blair]Everton Blair I noticed two interesting stories today. The first one on the BBC stated that from Sunday the UK singles chart will include online downloads for the first time, which will have a major impact on the top 10. In the first three months of 2005, 4.5 million songs were downloaded legally in the UK – compared with 5.8 million bought over the counter, and also because downloaders tend to be mature males not teenage girls. The second story I noticed was that Cingular had convinced bands to release their songs as ringtones before singles. Coldplay will be the first band, and their new song Speed of Sound will be available as a new ringtone six days before it gets played on the radio and a couple of months before their new album comes out in June. I still can’t get my head around why anyone would pay 1.5-4 for a 30 second clip, but given that people are in their droves, and also given that the ringtones market is also bigger than the singles market, should ringtones also be included in the UK top 40? One benefit would be that Top of the Pops would finish a lot quicker – imagine how many 30 second ‘hits’ they could play in 15 minutes! What You Should Know About ACT

By Deanna Mascle There comes a time in every college bound person’s life when they ask the questions “What is the ACT and how does it impact my future”? A national college admission examination, the ACT consists of subject area tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science plus an optional writing exam. Originally, “ACT” stood for American College Testing. However, in 1996 the official name of the organization was shortened to simply “ACT” to better reflect the broad array of programs and services offered beyond college entrance testing. There are three good reasons to take the ACT: 1. The ACT tests are universally accepted for college admission. 2. The ACT is not an aptitude or an IQ test. Instead, the questions on the ACT are directly related to high school courses in English, mathematics, and science. 3. In addition to the tests, the ACT also provides test takers with a unique interest inventory that provides valuable information for career and educational planning and a student profile section that provides a comprehensive profile of high school work and future plans. In the U.S., the ACT is administered on five national test dates in October, December, February, April, and June. In selected states, the ACT is also offered in late September. The ACT tests are prepared according to the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing, American Educational Research Association, American Psychological Association, & National Council on Measurement in Education (1985); Code of Professional Responsibilities in Educational Measurement, National Council on Measurement in Education (1995); and Code of Fair Testing Practices in Education, Joint Committee on Testing Practices (1988). People of all ages and grade levels are eligible to take the ACT. This includes junior high or middle school students and those who have already graduated from high school. The test includes 215 multiple-choice questions in four subject areas: English-75 questions; Math-60 questions; Reading-40 questions; and Science-40 questions. Plus one writing prompt in the optional writing portion. There are no limitations on how many times you can take the ACT, although there are restrictions on how frequently you can do so. For example, you can test only once per national or state test date, or if you test through non-national testing such as special testing, you must wait a minimum of 60 days between retests. Many students take the test twice, once as a junior and again as a senior. You should definitely consider retesting if you had any problems during the test, such as misunderstanding the directions or not feeling well. You may also want to consider retesting if you aren’t satisfied that your scores accurately represent your abilities. Retesting may be a good idea if you see a discrepancy between your ACT scores and your high school grades, or if you have completed coursework or an intensive review in the subject areas included in the ACT since you were tested. Research shows that of the students who took the ACT more than once 55% increased their Composite score on the retest. If you take the test more than once, you control which scores are sent to colleges or scholarship programs. The ACT is an important part of your pre-college admission process. You should learn as much as possible about the exam and prepare yourself well as it can have a tremendous impact on your future college and college program admission. You can learn more about the ACT from the ACT corporation, college admission offices, and high school guidance departments. Deanna Mascle writes about many college, learning and education topics. Drink Your Water! Drink For Weight Loss

By Kat Lively Eight glasses a day…no doubt you’ve heard it from everybody – your parents, your doctor, talk show professionals. The road to wellness is actually a river of pure, clean water, and while to drink sixty-four ounces daily seems like an impossible task, it is actually one of the simplest steps you can take to starting a sound weight loss program. After all, our bodies are approximately sixty percent water, so it is only natural that we constantly replenish ourselves in order to feel good. Water has no fat – as opposed to thick milkshakes Water has no calories – as opposed to iced tea Water has no sugar – as opposed to soft drinks Water has no caffeine – as opposed to coffee Think about how many times a day you eat or have a snack. How often do you have a drink to accompany your meals? How often do you default to the combo meal that comes with a soft drink? Sure, you can order a diet drink and not contend with calories or fat, but consider the sugars (or sugar substitutes) and other ingredients that may counter effect your dieting program. By replacing each drink with a glass of water, not only are you closer to your daily allowance but you greatly increase the chances of a healthier you! Water energizes – As you engage in a strenuous workout, you need fluids to replace what you lose. Many may suggest sports drinks with electrolytes, but these same drinks may have sugar, which may counter effect your exercise. Drinking water as you exercise can keep you energized to complete your workout. Water refreshes – On a hot day, nothing cools down the body like a glass of ice water. Of course, it doesn’t have to be a hundred degrees for water consumption to be necessary. Drink a glass or two between meals for a continued good feeling. Water cleanses – Did you know that the more water you drink, the better for your kidneys? Yes, you might imagine that drinking water you need to urinate more, but this is actually a good thing. Water breaks down calcium that can form into kidney stones, so the more you drink the less chance you will have of getting them. You may notice, too, that your urine becomes a lighter color when you drink more water in a day. This is a good sign, it means you are keeping your kidneys healthy. Ideally, you want to be sure your urine is as clear as possible. When you enroll in the Compuslim weight loss program, you will be encouraged to drink plenty of water. Whether you are taking the Compuslim Fat Burner, Hoodia Gordonii, Carb Fat Blockers or Insulin Assist, you can benefit more by accompanying each supplement with an increased water intake. You will feel more energized, hydrated, and more confident as you continue with your weight loss. Signs Your Date Is Married

By Scot McKay You know if you wrecked the truck on purpose because you needed the insurance money to make the next payment, you might be a redneck. At least that’s what Jeff Foxworthy says. And if your date is up to any of the following, s/he just might be married. 1) If his or her picture isn’t online, but he or she has plenty to send youhe or she might be married. Yeah, wellmaybe he or she is embarrassed to be seen online by coworkers, etc. With online dating becoming more and more mainstream, that excuse is going to be less and less useful. 2) If he or she always has an excuse for not having you over the househe or she might be married. Especially guys. If a man does not want women over to his house, it can only mean one of two things: a) He’s married, or b) he’s homeless (or at least close). Now here’s the other side of the coin. Checking out someone’s place is an excellent way to get this whole issued resolved. Unless s/he’s an independently wealthy one with crash pads’ other than the primary residence, you’ll be able to tell PDQ that dude/dudette is single. 3) If he or she can only see you at weird hourshe or she might be married. Are you being penciled in for a lot of weekday breakfasts or lunches? A “quick dinner” that ends by 7.30? Saturday afternoon from 1-2.30? OKyou can wake up now. Bear in mind this point stands only when a blanket statement. If there are weird times in addition to blocks of time during weekends and evenings, that’s probably a good sign. 4) If he or she can only see you for a short while at a timehe or she might be married. This goes right along with the previous point. If someone likes you, s/he wants to hang around for more than an hour at a timeat least sometimes. Again, some short visits are a good signif there are also blocks of time being spent together. 5) If he or she live in a major metro area but are flying around the country/world to meet youhe or she might be married. This is a good one. A lot of people think that meeting someone online from far away and doing the LDR (i.e. “long distance relationship”) is so romantic. My simple question to you is this: If s/he’s such an incredible gem of a “hottie”, why does this person need to meet people hundreds or thousands of miles away when he or she lives in oh, say, Chicago? I’m thinking that in a metro area of 10m people (or 250K people, for that matter), there’s someone local to date. Granted, God may have put your soulmate far away from you to teach you both discipline, dedication, patience, etc. But through the fog of infatuation, at least consider how virtually foolproof it is for someone who is married to set up trysts in far away places. Be especially wary when someone from far away has existing business concerns in your city, or could logically. For example, if dude works for a supplier to AT&T out of Oakland, CA, he’s probably coming to San Antonio at some point anyway. It’s way too easy to get away with this for a married person. Even if someone is coming in for the weekend, find out if s/he has some hobby or interest that would have earned a “kitchen pass” with the spouse. Do the research. Add it up. Go with your gut on this. BTW, look for the ins and outs of flying somewhere to meet an online friend in a future article. 6) If you can’t get a home phone number out of themhe or she might be married. With so many people cutting off the landlines in favor of going mobile only these days, this is far from foolproof. But if seen in combo with other factors, take it into consideration. 7) If you’ve seen them driving two different vehicleshe or she might be married. Example: Guy shows up to your first date with an ’03 Chevy Silverado pickup. Second date, he’s driving an ’01 Honda Odyssey minivan. This is not a good sign. Sorry, troopssingle people just don’t tend to own both a pickup truck and a minivan. Or two different Honda Accords. You get my drift. If you call the guy in our example out on this and he says something to the effect of, “Oh, that’s a rental. The truck’s in the shop” take into consideration that a) Rentals are usually less than two model years old, b) are invariably free of visible damage (even “used” car rentals don’t have smashed fenders, c) almost always have the rental company’s logo/barcodes on them somewhere., and d) rentals from dealers/repair shops are typically small econo-boxes or (at best) equivalent to what the customer is driving. The rental excuse will either hold water, or it won’t. Note, however, that if a guy in particular has two dissimilar vehicles it’s not necessarily a bad sign. Lot’s of guys do. For example, if he has a pickup truck one day and a Porsche the next, that’s not what we are talking about here. Ohand more single guys have “family” type cars/minivans than you think. That alone isn’t a biggee. 8) If he or she has tan lines on his or her left ring fingerhe or she might be married. Yep, this is the classic stereotype. It’s obvious, but it still deserves mention. People still try to get away with this. 9) If he or she is “legally separated”he or she might be married. Scratch “might be”he or she is married. This scenario deserves careful research and lots of questions. Also, be advised that in some states (e.g. here in TX) there isn’t even such a thing as “legal separation”. Being involved with someone who is “separated” may mean the spouse (and that’s what that other person is, frankly) may not exactly feel the same way or be on the same page as your date. Proceed with caution-after all, there’s already an admission going on here that s/he’s married! Guys, this is a good way to get shot at. Think about it. 10) If the divorce “is going to be final any day now”he or she might be married. This goes hand-in-hand with the point abovemaybe literally. You have an admission from your date that s/he is married, so almost any excuse goes, doesn’t it? For what it’s worth, I really hope that if you are intelligent enough to read English you would never be willing to believe that your date is going to “get around to leaving” his or her spouse sometime “soon”. Please. 11) If he or she just moved here from somewhere elsehe or she might be married. Sure people move all the time, but if there really wasn’t anything to move TO in your city for your date (e.g. job, family ties, etc.) then you should find out what s/he is moving FROM. Caveat emptorthe breakup might not be final back at home. 12) If he or she has to leave when the cell phone ringshe or she might be married. Oh yeah. Gotta keep the spouse informedand in this case your date is going to have to lie to everyone at once about it, so that conversation can’t happen in front of you. Logical, isn’t it? This isn’t foolproof, however, especially if your date is on-call for work a lot and deals with potentially sensitive info (e.g. doctor, lawyer, law-enforcement). You make the “call” on this one. So there’s a dozen for you. If you have more signs–or great stories–send them to me. Budget Marketing: Maximizing Your Exposure

By Mat Kelly Every small business knows the importance of exposure to get customers in the door. And while execution of this basic marketing principle comes in varying degrees of complexity and cost, you do not have to empty the bank account to get your companys name in front of a targeted audience. Following the old, basic marketing model putting a sign with your companys name on the door; sprinkling your advertising budget across print, radio and television campaigns; and paying a graphic designer for a slick brochure or pamphlet minimizes your impact in the marketplace. An important step in expanding your customer base is gaining exposure to generate interest in your brand. And if you were thinking that you couldnt get a lot of exposure because of a limited budget, keep in mind that there are always effective, low-cost marketing options to attract potential customers. Heres a look at a couple of ideas to stretch your advertising dollars. Website Just under a decade ago, only the large companies were using their websites as effective marketing tools. Today, almost every business needs one. Your website serves as an essential piece of your overall marketing plan that fuels a sense of legitimacy for your business. If you dont have a website, potential customers may be turned off because these days, the perception is this: if you are a legitimate professional, you have a website. Its as important as having a phone number for your business. The options for the size, appearance and functionality of a website are endless. But a presence on the Web is essential for you to take your company beyond your word-of-mouth customer base. As you look into planning your website, remember to budget for website design, development, hosting, maintenance and content management. Trade Shows Trade shows bring a targeted group of businesses to one location, and the event is marketed toward that industrys target audience. When you participate as a vendor at a trade show, you know the customers walking in the door are more likely than the general public to be interested in your product or service. As attendees walk past your trade show booth, your display will introduce the customer to your company before they formally meet you. And you must come to the event prepared to sell your team should be skilled in delivering your elevator pitch, know the details of your product or service and be able answer any questions potential customers may ask. To make sure you attract attention and stand out from the crowd of exhibitors, you must make a smart decision about where to purchase your trade show display. If you are working with a limited budget, tabletop displays make a big statement for a small investment. And there are more advantages to table top displays than just price. Larger, more elaborate floor displays are often heavy, cumbersome, must be transported in several pieces and have a complex assembly that requires help from more than one person. Table top displays, on the other hand, are reasonably compact and lightweight, easily transportable (whether by airplane or car) and simple to put together. Many come with lighting, a shipping case, and a variety of add-on options to make your display more elaborate. If you are looking to fine-tune that polished look, remember to add table throws, trade show flooring and literature racks. If you arent quite sure which type of trade show display you want or need, you may be able to rent a more sophisticated model for a significantly lower price. Sponsorships It seems that advertising has sneaked its way into every nook and cranny of our existence and from your local weather broadcast to the Olympics, companies large and small have learned that sponsorships are advertising at its best. Companies often sponsor well-publicized events to create an association in the consumers psyche between charitable giving and their company and/or product even companies that are well-known household names. McDonalds was an official sponsor for the 2006 Olympic Winter Games; Altria (the parent company of Kraft Foods and Philip Morris) sponsors domestic violence prevention programs; from childrens health in New Zealand to classrooms for students in England, Microsoft spends millions of dollars each year in charitable giving; and scores of small and large businesses offer funding to support events and causes in their local community, from cancer walks and 10K marathons to your local after-school programs, symphony, little league teams and amateur sports leagues. No matter the size of your company, there is a charitable organization, cause or event that could use your dollars for support. Of course, the more money you give, the more exposure you will receive. But, whether you give $100 or $1,000, your company will receive some exposure. There is an endless list of other strategies to get your companys name in front of a limited audience speaking engagements, volunteer work, memberships with clubs and associations, give-away promotions etc. But through an effective website, regular trade show participation and a consistent sponsorship strategy, you will be maximizing your marketing dollars for quality exposure without blowing your budget. The Power Dynamics of the Phone and Dating

By Rion Williams Have you ever stopped yourself before you called a woman to follow up with for a date? You’ve maybe paced around thinking about what you’re going to say and built up your ‘confidence’? If you’re doing that, you’ve already given up your true relation power to her. She has the favor. There’s almost nothing you can do to change it at that point no matter what other experts tell you. There’s no ‘magic words’ to save you. The woman will actually know where most men are coming from even though the man might think he’s hiding it or that it’s not evident; she KNOWS. We make fun of it in the movies but it really is a problem. I used to do it too but women know the true relationship -and this is on the phone! Often they would still give me a ‘chance’ because I had some other things going for me but sometimes they also weren’t interested from the get-go because they knew they had the power and favor. Society tells us one thing but attraction is actually something else. It’s especially ironic and makes women’s actions seem completely illogical. Don’t worry; they ARE living in a paradox and it isn’t good for them either. You essentially have to defy their own logic which so many of them will defend, and just ‘BE’ that man who keeps his power for himself so that her true, feminine self can override her logic and be attracted to you. That’s the way it works and it works the most with men who are the purest examples of alpha male character. And you’ve seen desirable women end up with jerks which defies their own logic as well. Well, it’s because it’s the natural and responsive character within them. The part that was there before their own causally rooted social conditioning. They will chase the bad boy loser jerks and sleep with them (who are high in natural character) after talking on the phone with a courting ‘nice guy’ of better means. It’s all because of the relational dynamics involved. A woman’s natural character (the part that gets heated up and leads to sex), responds to strong men, not to manchild’s who give their power up ‘respectfully’ to a woman. Sure, it may synergize with her logic and social expectations but she’s not ‘attracted’ to that manchild or femboy…there’s no ‘chemistry’ because he is low in character and not being the stimulus for her to respond to. Rarely will that ever lead to sex for that man. Also, if a man goes down her expectation of a long-term ‘relationship’ path and it’s not what he wants, there is going to be turmoil as well. She will have more control over sex in that type of scenario because it’s based on logical and social expectations instead of an emotional response. So when it comes to using the phone and setting up the frame of the relationship, what’s the best solution? Keep your power in the first place and don’t go down a road that you don’t want. Lead and women will follow. That and sms/text message instead. Rion Williams is one of the foremost experts in dating advice, personal power and relational dynamics. He is well-known within the seduction community itself. His work focuses on the regaining and improving of real character within frustrated men who do don’t want to ‘act’, use pick-up lines or techniques to get women. He teaches modern men how to truly be natural and comfortable in their own skin to consistently succeed with women, attraction and dating.
